<Warning Oblivion Spoilers... > Not that it's a new game or anything but I don't want to annoy that one person out there who just picked it up...

Well, I finally got around to playing through the entire Dark Brotherhood storyline in Oblivion. I never played it before, as I was playing
a 'good' character who hated assassins ('good' being a relative term as she was a thief... but who isn't in these games??).

Anyways, I was always curious about who Lucien really was after I had to hear him go on and on all the time as the Spectral Assassin in
Skyrim. I had to find out about these stories he was talking about. And now I really DO know the tale of Mathieu Bellamont and the great
treachery of Cheydinhal. Oh my gosh... poor Lucien... why couldn't the player character get to him in time??? And the way he died... so awful! (Note:
Lucien probably deserved it as he killed an innocent mom in front of an innocent boy, but the games twist things to make you sympathize with the
characters you interact the most with- if we had instead spent our time with Mathieu Bellamont and HE died a gruesome death instead of Lucien, then
who knows? Maybe Bellamont would have a huge fan following).

So...Anyhow, I feel more caught up now in the ES universe. Oh, but I haven't met Sheo in Oblivion either. Probably should do that too before I head back to Skyrim...

PS. No new art until I get my new Photoshop software in the mail. Still waiting.... (Yes, I am sans Photoshop right now... This is due to my previous computer
giving up the ghost and my having to get a new one...).
  • Mood: Wow!
  • Reading: I need a good book to read...
  • Playing: Oblivion
  • Drinking: Coffee

I know this is way old but I just have to say. You said that Lucien killed an innocent mom in front of in innocent boy and although Bellamont was an innocent child the mother was questionable but possibly innocent. But, Lucien actually didn't just slaughter the mother in front of Mathieu, in his journal it explains that he was hiding under his mother's bed when she was killed and Lucien may not have realized he was there. If he had realized he was there I'm sure he would have found the connection between him and the traitor before it was too late. Regardless, Lucien was far from innocent as a murderer, but I'd have to say I don't like Gogron gro-Bolmog the most of the murders. During one of the first two quests you do with the Dark Brotherhood, either the pirates or the dropping the head on the man in Bruma he'll tell you a story about killing a five year old child at her birthday party.

I have not played played Obivion (and probably will not due to my age) but you make a good point. You sympathize with the character you knew the most. I mean I went through the whole DB quest line in Skyrim and felt bad for Cicero instead of Astrid. >.< In the end they are all, even your new assassin character included now, murderers. Yet they are not lawless bandits, they make a living helping.... cleanse the world of the unworthy, for a price. All people die in the end, but the Dark Brotherhood brings all who are unworthy with them.
(The great treatry of Chedenhal? The story Lucien asked me about but I never knew? D:)

Hey, what's age have to do with playing Oblivion? I'm guessing you are not too young
as you play Skyrim. Oblivion is awesome. You should give it a chance.

I don't think the people the DB assassinate are unworthy, per se. They just happened to
get someone angry enough to want them dead. (It says more about the person who began the contract-
they must be pretty evil to hire an assassin just because someone decided to not date them anymore, or whatever the case!)

Ah well I'm technically not supposed to play Skyrim. My older family members let me play, anyway. At any rate, your right. I'll look into Oblivion. It sounds fun!
Yeah, I thought the same except when I had to kill the homeless dude and the elderly maid. I never got those two contracts...

I have found mods that rescript the game to save the brotherhood innocents...havent used it myself...but saw it :) made me sad...I loved Lucien and Vicente...and if Vicente wanted to destroy the brotherhood...he would have done it hundreds of years ago when he joined :P

I loved the Dark Brotherhood storyline. And it was great to see Lucien back again, even if he really doesn't know when to shut up, I swear him and Cicero is like bringing some of the nosiest company ever, and there both from the Dark Brotherhood.

Yeah, fans definitely fill in the blanks on these characters. I wish ES would expand them more
themselves as I'm much more into character interaction then just action alone. Oh well...

And rage!quit playing for like, two days after.

And then tried replaying through it like three times trying to get there in time. xD

It didn't work. >:C

=^^=
Do hurry and meet Lord Sheogorath! He's amazing.
Do NOT go to his shrine and do his Daedric quest until AFTER you've done Shivering Isles. It's funnier that way. ^^

Well, Bellamont was the poor child who watched his mom get murdered by Lucien. It'd be very easy
for the storytellers to steer us in the direction of sympathizing with Bellamont if they had chosen to do so.

The Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion is one of my favorite quest lines. I've always loved assassins so I felt right at home here. But yes... YEEEEES you talk of Lucien as he is - a murderer. The reason the player gets attached is because of the story's perspective. He's poetic, dark and oh-so-polite to you as he recruits you, but what about the other end of the spectrum? What if you were his victim? There's really no telling how dark the man really is. But he's a fascinating character and he's got good looks to boot. If you asked the other family members what they thought, Ocheeva and Teinaava say "he was like a father to us" because he raised them and taught them how to be good assassins. Gogron says he saw him deal with an "insubordinate" family member and it took him weeks to get the blood washed off his boots.

....why, yes, I do know too much. >D Anyway! I'm glad you enjoyed it! And yes, it is so frustrating to know you can never make it on time to save him from the Black Hand. :<

Heh, I hoped you'd comment, being the resident Lucien expert n' all.

Yes, he did raise Ocheeva and Teinaava like a father.... and then ordered them
to be slaughtered despite no evidence of them being guilty of betrayal! (Now for a father figure, that's cold...)

On thiefing. I am not a thief... I just take what belongs to me, for the people I take some stuff often died by my claws, right after they had a battle cry about mudcrabs that fighting better than me and what a n'wah I am. Of course, as I am still here and they are wiped out of Tamriel, you wonder what else I could do with the stuff they had? Leave it lying around and make others fall over it? :D

Okay, so, officially, I am almost a thief, but they started it. :D

Heh, yeah. You almost have to be a thief to play the Elder Scroll games... I'm not certain
there are many options for a 'Lawful Good' character in Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim...
Neutral Good and Chaotic Good, yes... but Lawful, not really... (Plenty of Lawful Good NPC's
though... Example: the guards in Oblivion...).

Now, laws are nice in this, and if you think on what memory allocation could be needed for those parts, you'll see it is easier to take the stuff. :D
Of course, I can be lawful. Since taking the possessions of died enemies aren't prohibited! :D
