Damar

Maybe someday I'll paint this ... Anyways, WARNING: Long character back story below ...

Damar is my Dunmer Enchanter who has clawed his way up from a life of poverty after arriving as a refugee in Skyrim. After months of freelance thievery (he has no ties the Thieves' Guild) and killing and robbing innocents on the road, he has finally made a life for himself in Markarth. At first he lived in the abandoned house, after pledging his loyalty to Molag Bal, but after a bit of a rough start with the local powers that be, he was able to finally make a name for himself and purchase Vlindrel Hall.

Generally cold and distant, Damar was surprised when he felt nothing but guilt and emptiness after finally earning the respect of the Jarl and buying, with blood coin, his own luxurious home. To atone for his past, he decided he would adopt two boys as surely giving a couple of orphans a roof over their heads would make up for all his previous acts of evil ...

After a long trip to Riften he visited the orphanage. He spoke to a blonde-haired Imperial boy named Francois and discovered that the child believed his parents were going to return to him someday, and that he just had to wait a little longer. Damar believed this would be to his benefit as it would keep the child emotionally distant from him. He then spoke to another Imperial child, this time a dark-haired boy named Samuel. The boy seemed a bit rough around the edges and Damar reasoned that, since the child knew the more fragile-looking Francois already, they could help look out for each other.

And so the Dark Elf became a father. The boys were thrilled to have a home for themselves but quickly discovered that their new 'Pa' preferred silence and generally just wanted his privacy and space. He would send them outside, or off to do chores and would never play with them as he had 'work to do in his Enchanting Lab'. They had everything they physically needed in their new luxurious home but, just like Honorhall, they continued to feel unloved. Francois began to act as compliant and cheerful as he could, to try to win his new father's approval. The boy found that it had some effect as Damar caved and allowed him to keep the young Skeever that followed him home. Samuel used another approach, acting out to get his Pa's attention, and discovered that negative attention was better than none at all (although he seethed inside due to the fact that Francois seemed to be favored by his father; as he always received the best gifts and was never given as many chores to do).

The boys were also alarmed when they would wake up and their father, without a word, would be gone. Their Pa would be gone for days, sometimes weeks before returning (and often with some strange companion and a bunch of new armor, weapons and other treasures). Damar always made sure to stock the pantry before he left and reasoned that, as long as they had a roof over their head and plenty of food, they'd be fine.

And thus goes the story of Damar and his two boys so far ... I'm really enjoying this new character and if you just read that entire description then I salute you.
